Extensive efforts in localization and support have been underway for several months leading up to the German launch. Demon Lord Sighted for the First Time in Runes of Magic

Frogster America, Inc. today announced that as part of the current content update ‘Naga’s Awakening’, players will get to meet the namesake of Runes of Magic’s first chapter, the Demon Lord. The Demon Lord haunts a nightmare version of the city of Varanas in a new open combat feature, ‘Varanas Nightmare’, in what the company calls a ‘Public Encounter’. Public encounters are instances where players do not need to be part of a party or guild to enter, however the content is difficult and grouping is recommended.

The high level scenario is made up of three phases in and around the ‘Varanas Nightmare’, which has afflicted the minds of the city’s inhabitants. Up to 150 players can simultaneously combat the terrible dream and fight to stop the Demon Lord. The first targets for player groups are dimensional portals which are spread around the burned out city. Twenty portals need to be closed before the task is completed and phase two begins. This is where players have to overcome three world bosses in succession. Should the adventurers achieve victory within three minutes, the third and final phase begins. If the players fail, then the scenario begins again from the first phase.

Well coordinated raids are required to defeat the third opponent since this character is actively supported by the Demon Lord. The Demon Lord doesn’t actually engage in combat himself, but he does heal his vassals making the challenge difficult and victory very satisfying. Killing his minions doesn’t only bestow reputation and honor on the hero for mastering the scenario, but as the toughest challenge in Runes of Magic to date, there is also outstanding loot for the victors.

Runes of Magic ‘Secret of the Goblin Mine’ Coming Soon

SAN FRANCISCO – July 23, 2009 – Frogster America Inc., today announced that it will soon deliver new content for Runes of Magic, with the large patch, ‘Secret of the Goblin Mine.’ The update expands the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) world with among other things, the ‘Goblin Mine,’ a new mini-game. There is also a new weapon quest series being added to the game. The anticipated release date for ‘Secret of the Goblin Mine’ is July 28th.

The ‘Goblin Mine’ solo adventure sends the adventurer into a cave full of pesky green creatures, as well as some weird and wonderful elemental beings. Players have 30 minutes in which to perform three tasks inside the dungeon. They are allowed just one attempt per day to do this, and anyone who dies during the adventure, loses their chance for the day. Those who succeed, receive rare armor recipes and handcrafted objects from the treasure chests at the end of the dungeon. There are also two new titles to reward particularly diligent Goblin hunters, one of which being ‘Goblin Hero.’

Along with the ‘Secret of the Goblin Mine’ patch, an epic weapon quest series is also being implemented for all players. Tasks which demand everything from players and their companions are a part of the toughest quest series that Runes of Magic has to offer. But, the effort will be worth it. Players who manage to come out on top, battling against Taborea’s most challenging opponents, will find themselves rewarded with some legendary weapons at the end of their travels.

Now, players in Runes of Magic have the chance to cultivate plants in their own homes. Seeds and pots of varying quality define the yield of the plants as they grow. So only those who regularly water and fertilize their crops will find they have a harvest in three to seven days. If players neglect their plants, they’ll shrink after a few days. Once the plants have grown, players will see a reward for their labor. Together with ore and wood, there is even a rare blue handwork material which can be harvested.

Frogster America, Inc. today announced that starting in September, elves will enter Runes of Magic as playable race. The addition of the playable class coincides with the launch of the second chapter of the game which was announced last week at the E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. The upcoming ‘Chapter II – The Elven Prophecy,’ will deliver a widely branching background story with the elven race playing a major part. The second chapter will offer many new challenges which will be told in many new quests and new quest lines. It will also lead players into new game regions characterized by elven lore, including an elven island off of the shore of Ravenfell.

After having lived in secrecy for ages, the elves are surrounded by an aura of mystery. Nevertheless, they are considered to be one of Taborea’s oldest races. Because of their particular affinity for nature, the elves are mostly found in the remote and undisturbed areas of Taborea’s large forests. Members of the elven people are characterized by extraordinary intelligence and dexterity and their metal-working skills are on a par with those of the dwarves, whereas their style is much more ornate.

The design of elvish weapons is of great elegance, and almost fragility, but in the hands of an elvish fighter, they reveal an impressive effectiveness. A decisive influence on the effects of elvish weapons derives from their owner’s purity and affinity with nature. Because of their aesthetic value, the renowned elvish long swords and longbows are very sought after by humans, as well. But, only the elves themselves possess the mental skills necessary to handle such elegant weapons.

Yore, the elvish kingdom, has been located in the area of the present Aslan valley. Therefore, the valley is also known as ‘The Origin.’ The elven kingdom was shattered in the time of the primeval war against the demons. After an oracle prophecy, a part of the elven people abandoned the area under Prince Isnasil to avoid the conflict. A second faction under king Antaikolon waged war. To avoid such confrontations in the future, the elven king had a magical wall erected in the aftermath to hold back the evil Naga people which have been allied with the demons. By inserting the holy elven sword ‘Arclight’ into the wall, he rendered it impenetrable.

Since that time, the descendants of the elven fighters around Antaikolon have served as guardians and paladins of the holy sword ‘Arclight’ dedicating themselves to the study of their martial arts. When elven Prince Sig’aylas removed the holy sword ‘Arclight’ from the wall hundreds of years later to defend his human true love, the wall perished and the Naga threat flared up once again. With the upcoming ‘Chapter II – The Elven Prophecy’ for Runes of Magic, the elven people will enter the stage again. Starting in September 2009 players will be able to play their part in the game world of Taborea.

French and Spanish Versions of Runes of Magic to Launch in September

Frogster today announced that following the success of the English and German versions of Runes of Magic, the company is now preparing for the release of French and Spanish language versions of the game. Both new localized versions are scheduled to launch in September to coincide with the launch of the recently announced ‘Chapter II – The Elven Prophecy.’

From launch, the French and Spanish versions will include all of the features available in ‘Chapter I – Rise of the Demon Lord,’ as well as Elves as a new playable race, two new classes, new game regions, new dungeons and raid instances, a new pet system as well as a new soundtrack. According to current plans, a closed beta test for both new language versions is scheduled to start in July on dedicated servers, which will host the French and Spanish community as the game goes live. The growth represents user growth of around 150,000 players per month.

FROGSTER AMERICA NAMES LARS KOSCHIN AS CEO

Frogster America, Inc. today announced that it has named MMO industry veteran, Lars Koschin, as the company’s next CEO to take the company through its rapid growth stage following the successful launch of Runes of Magic. The company has also opened an office in Emeryville, California to handle additional operations, community management and customer service activities to expand their reach in North America.

“Lars brings deep and valuable experience to the role of CEO and we’re confident he and his team will continue the early success we’ve seen in North America,” said Christoph Gerlinger, Chairman of Frogster America Inc. and CEO of its Berlin based listed parent company Frogster Interactive Pictures AG. “We would also like to thank our start-up team for their contributions in getting us through our initial launch stage and state that our founding CEO, Sean Kauppinen, will continue to provide marketing strategy, business development and communications support going forward as we had always planned.”

Koschin joins the company from GameForge, where he served as CEO of the company’s North American operations. Earlier in his career he founded Gamigo, one of the first online game publishers in Europe and has served as CTO and in other leadership positions with Curse, Inc., Uni-X Software, Deltacity.NET and other technology focused enterprises.
