Upcoming Changes With Patch 4.0.1: Reforging

For those that are eagerly awaiting the release of Cataclysm in December, we thought that we’d help you along by showing you what is coming in reference to new changes to weapons and gear in patch 4.0.1.  I mean, what would a new WoW expansion and patches be without some type of new NPC’s to bug right?  Well, it looks like one of the new ones to be unveiled in patch 4.0.1 are NPC’s that specialize in Reforging.  Just what is Reforging?  Well, lets take a look…

From the World of Warcraft website on patch 4.0.1, Reforging is basically allowing you to change up some of the stats that your current gear offers to you.  You can hit up one of these NPC’s that offers Reforging, pay a fee, and change the stats to what you want from what is there already.  Now, primary stats (agility, intellect, stamina, and strength) cannot be changed on a piece of gear, but the secondary stats (hit rating, critical strike rating, haste rating, dodge rating, parry rating, expertise rating, and spirit) all can be changed at a Reforger.

When you reforge an item, you can take advantage of the different customizable stats for that particular piece and gain some excellent buffs and bump up certain scores that were lacking.  Of course, there are some rules that you’ll have to follow, such as the fact that an item has to be level 200 or higher.  When you are ready to reforge an item, visit one of the new NPC’s that specialize in this, select the item you want to change, and then select the secondary stat that you want to change.  You can choose any of the secondary stats and allocate about 40% of that stat toward another stat of your choice.  The cost is the amount that the item would vendor for, and keep in mind that you can only do this to one stat on one item at a time.  And, you cannot bump up a secondary stat that is already there on the item.  But, you can undo that change and reforge it again if you want to.

The good thing is that when you are reforging an item, it will show you the changes that are about to be made before you click accept.  You’ll be able to see exactly what will change and how it will change.  So, you can then calculate how it might change your current scores and stats.  Use this wisely, as once you pay for a reforge, you’ll have to pay to undo it.
