For those who are newer to World of Warcraft, or those that may just need a brush up on manners, we here at Zownder have put together a Group Ettiquite guide just for you! No longer do you have to be that person that gets booted from a group and wonders why! We can help even the most “jerkiest” player out there learn to play well with others. Here are the main tips that you need to follow when in a group anywhere in World of Warcraft:
1. Do not “need” everything – not only is this just uncool, but it’s sure to get you the big boot if you continue to need every good drop.
2. Ask before you “need” something – this is just polite. When something great drops that you want, just shoot out a small chat asking if it’s cool that you need. Normally, no one will care, and they’ll tell you go ahead. But, it’s always polite to ask first.
3. Don’t be bossy – if you aren’t sure that the people in your group have ran this particular instance or raid before, ask if everyone is familiar with the area first. Don’t just start barking out commands. If you do find that you need to shoot out a reminder or ask for someone to stop doing something, do it nicely – you don’t have to cuss or be rude to remind other players do to, or not do, a specific action.
4. Don’t be a sore loser if you don’t get a drop – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve actually seen people bail on a group if they don’t get a particular drop that they wanted. This is not fair to the others in your group, and your friends in the group will remember that you bailed on them, which means you won’t get invited back.
5. If you need time to heal or get mana, let the group know before so they can stop for a break – this is only polite so they aren’t running into battle without a major part of the group.
6. Ask before you aggro a boss – no matter what your position is in the group, you always want to ask if everyone is ready before you aggro a boss or group of mobs. Your healer may not be ready, or your DPS might need mana… you want to make sure that you are keeping an eye on everyone so that you don’t wipe when you should have easily cleared something.
7. Don’t be rude – I have seen so many times in a group where players are just downright rude to others. If you think that someone isn’t that great of a tank or DPS or healer – don’t just blurt it out. That’s almost a sure fire way to get someone to bail on your group. Plus, it’s just rude. Remember that there are always better players out there than you, and no one is perfect.
8. Thank everyone when you’re done – just shoot out a quick “Thanks” to everyone when you finish the dungeon or raid. This is just a nice way to remind everyone that you appreciated the help.
While there are normal, common sense things that go along with being in a group, we won’t go over them all here. Just make sure that you are on your best behavior when you are in a group so you will have an easier time finding another one when you need to.
