In a recent interview available on worldofwarcraft.com, it was announced that a huge project is currently under development. This project is a massive undertaking to make it possible for players to have two completely different talent specs learned at a time, and to swap between them “freely”. We put freely in quotes because, while the swap won’t cost the player gold, there are definitely a few restrictions. Several specific questions were raised as regards to how the feature will work, and some smaller additional features to compliment it were also mentioned. In it’s current state, the new dual talent spec feature will allow a max level player to visit their trainer and pay a one-time fee to enable the use of dual talent specs. I suspect this will be another massive gold expense, probably numbering into the thousands. But for many players who often find themselves switching specs (sometimes daily) then this will be well worth it.
In addition to being able to swap between two unique talent specs, the player will also be able to swap out glyphs at the same time. A whole set of glyphs will be set along with each talent spec and will swap automatically.
For those familiar with Closet Gnome, Item Rack, and other similar mods, WoW will be implementing a default system that works much the same way. Players will be able to save a set of items to equip and select their item load out at will. With all of these features being added, a player will be able to swap talents, specs, and gear with just a few clicks – even if they’re in the middle of an instance.
There is a catch, though. A Lexicon of Power is required for players to be able to swap their spec and glyphs. The ability for Scribes to be able to create Lexicons is being added, though in its current state the Lexicon will work similar to a repair bot. It will only remain in the world for a limited amount of time. It will also, tentatively, require several players to summon one, much like a summoning portal or mage table. The development team has not yet decided whether the Scribe’s Lexicon should be a consumable item or be on a cooldown.
One question that was raised in the interview is regards to Hunters and their pets. Blizzard intends to implement a feature where a Hunter can swap out their stabled pets from any location. So, for example, if a Beast Mastery Hunter respecs to Marksmanship and loses the ability to use his Exotic pet, that pet will return to the stables and he will be able to select a different one. They also announced that they intent to abolish the cost of respecing Hunter’s pets.
