Ultimate Guide to World Of Warcraft

Why would I purchase this guide, instead of the genuine World of Warcraft Guide, when truth is known, I don’t need either one? Beckett Massive Online Gamer Ultimate Guide to World Of Warcraft was stacked among the gaming magazines. What was eye catching, was the interview with Game director of WoW. I’d not read many interviews with Jeffery Kaplan. It was a cold , snowy day, and I wasn’t about to sit in Barnes and Noble reading the interview, so I purchased the magazine.

Beckett Entertainment is based in Dallas, Texas. Beckett Entertainment has an informative website with a large forum at www.massiveonlinegamer.com. The website is alot like the magazine, except it covers most of the MMO’s. Having played WoW for over two years, I’ve accumulated most of the official Blizzard game guides, and the older atlas, and the map poster. The Ultimate Guide to World of Warcraft is full of information. Not all of it is about the expansion pack. I was expecting to read a thorough guide or even a walk-through, such as this.   The magazine has over 35 pages of class descriptions, and a descriptive article covering the new areas in the expansion pack, with a small section devoted to death knights. There are also section on the TCG. The Blizzard Game Director interview is one page long.

The article on Succeeding in Crafting, while appealing, by the time a player’s character is level 70, a player is going to automatically discover the trainers in Howling Fjord, without a book telling them where to go. At least not this one. This magazine covers crafting from level 1 to level 80. All the crafts are classified and well written in precise instructions with graphics from the game. Each level of crafting is outlined thoroughly, with the items that can be made. But, is there a need for that in a magazine that publicized by Blizzard? I’m not sure there is.

In the very back of the Ultimate Guide To World of Warcraft, there is a clear-cut guide of the Sunwell Portal. The Sunwell Portal was added in patch 2.4. The date of the patch was Tuesday, March 25th, 2008. It is now December of 2008, and the guide is releasing a thorough walk-through of the Sunwell portal, with all the repeatable quests, and instances related to this area. For a level 70 toon, if they do the repeatable quests in the Isle of Quel Danas, if exalted, they receive 4 gold, and 9500 exp. Pre -expansion pack, the reward was atleast 9 gold, no exp. If the quests are done at this time, toons also die alot. Because those pesky demons are gathered in huddles around the Know Your Ley Lines portals, the repair bill is not worth the experience points nor the gold. The bombing quest is still a quality quest, if the toon happens to be in the area. The magazine does not mention this.   Players donot need walk-throughs of areas placed in March of 2008. I donot understand why the magazine placed out-dated content in this issue. It is my hope that players with level 70 toons are exalted in this area. It is a very easy process.

The last article is on maintaining rep in Aldor and Scyers, and choosing between each one. This might be obsolete.  Shattrathis for players in the phase of 60-70, or lower levels, who intend to work the auction house, and save money on flight paths to  major cities. In the inscription profession, there is a script for porting into Shattrath for the toon below 40. Almost proof that Blizzard does not take Shattrath as seriously as they once did. It is common knowledge not to choose between Aldor or Scyers until the toon is either 69, or positive they want half the city to hate them. Has this magazine been sitting around the back of Barnes and Noble, waiting for the expansion pack to be released?

The graphics are amazing, as Blizzard always is. The magazine displays the graphics in a dazzling format, as in the game itself. I would never suggest for a new player to buy this magazine, as opposed to the Official Blizzard Game Guide. Yet, I believe it is geared towards new players.  If you see this in the store, avoid the Ultimate Guide to World of Wacraft. Spend the ten extra dollars and buy the official guide.
