According to most people who have ever watched the famed “Make Love Not Warcraft” episode of Southpark, gamers are simply fat teenagers who have nothing better do to with their time since they have no social life. But, as I have been saying for quite some time now, the average gamer is actually, well, me – a 31-year old woman (normally diagnosed with depression, but we’ll leave that out).
So, when I was browsing through some of the news on Yahoo just a bit ago, I was amazed and heartened to find this article: http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/gamers-fitter-than-average/1250686 which talks about a study that was done on Everquest 2 players. This study found that the average gamer is 10% leaner than the average American and reported that they exercise regularly, vigorously at least one to two times a week. This made me smile especially when they mentioned – once again – that the average gamer in today’s market is not teenage boys and that if you are looking for the average hard core gamer, they are the 31-year old woman who is probably at the gym. Gee, maybe I should trade in my home gym machines and head down to the local one… nah… too far from my computer.
But, this article was great to read, even if it was a bit short. Head over there and check it out though, as it’s actually really interesting and made me smile to think that all those people who think us hard core gamers are just fat and lazy… yeah, well, think again!
